Recent events

5 April 2018 - Arden Hotel, Birmingham

Challenges & learning from the remote monitoring & analysis of refrigeration systems

IOR, BSRA and ASHRAE UK Midlands Chapter organized this joint event: Energy usage is the greatest contributor to the total lifecycle cost of a refrigeration system, however, it is often overlooked due to the service provider treating it as a low priority or not knowing what action to take to improve on performance. A solution is to have the equipment continuously monitored remotely by specialist software which alerts the operator to poor performance. This talk provides an in-depth understanding of equipment behaviour and enables targeted maintenance activities to achieve the best energy efficiency.

7 February 2018 - Charnwood Brewery, Loughborough

Tour and Beer Tasting

Our ASHRAE Student Branch organised a social/fundraising event in Charnwood Brewery (https://www.charnwoodbrewery.co.uk/), including a tour of the brewery, beer tasting, and snacks.

16 January 2018 - De Montfort University

Energy Efficient Buildings and the Role of Building Information Modelling (BIM)

ASHRAE UK Midlands Chapter and Energy Institute East Midlands welcome you to this joint event on how Building Information Modelling can help to narrow the ‘performance gap’ between predictions of building energy use and the reality in practice, given by Dr Painter of De Montfort University and Mr Alex Mitchell of Pick Everard. The speakers will explain how building designers use computer models to predict energy use, the typical sources of inaccuracy of some of these models and how BIM can help to remedy these.

15 Nov 2017 - Loughborough University

Zero Carbon Buildings Evening

ASHRAE UK Midlands Chapter and Energy Institute East Midlands organized this joint event with two talks: “Design and operation of zero carbon GlaxoSmithKline Elipta Compliance Building” by Dr Rosi Fieldson, Sustainability Manager, Simons Group, and “Designing zero carbon buildings using dynamic simulation methods – a book launch” by Prof Lubo Jankovic, Director, Zero Carbon Lab, Birmingham City University.

ASHRAE UK Midlands and CIBSE Yorkshire Joint Event

The evening entitled “Commercial Buildings; Redefining Performance In-Use” included two speakers, Ian Ellison, a partner at 3edges, and Edward Murphy, founder of Ollio, on the hot topic of the building performance gap. Approaching the problem from very different directions, they have both arrived at similar views in suggesting the solutions lie outside of architects and designers normal fields of view.
